We need more officials
We are desperately short of parents in all age groups who are officials.
This season we had low numbers of officials available at our YDL Lower League, Wessex League & SAL meetings which can reduce our chances of getting maximum points for providing officials, as officials contribute to the team’s points in the both the YDL Lower & SAL Leagues that we compete in.
Going forward it would be good to have our YDL & Wessex teams to be self-sufficient with officials from the parents.
Please Note:
ALL OFFICIALS ARE VOLUNTEERS AND UNPAID.
NO OFFICIALS = NO COMPETITION FOR YOUR CHILD (The Cardiff YDL match nearly didn't go ahead this season).
We have an open meeting in Swindon on 10th September which would be a great opportunity for you to try officiating.
We also host a Winter Throws series competition every month from Oct to March and this will be a very relaxed competition for you to try out field officiating!
Please contact Kieran Golding, Alan Brown or Ray Bell if you would like to try officiating on the 10th September or during the Winter Throws series and we can ensure that you are mentored either in the field, start team, track or timekeeping.
See attached leaflet from England Athletics which explains the different roles and the steps to becoming an athletics official.
